Art for the Mind is a California nonprofit association sponsored by Hack +. We want to make a platform for new artists and support mental health. We showcase the portfolios of our artists and, through our site and resources, we support donated commissions. Through Art for the Mind, funds raised through our artists are donated to larger mental health charities and research. Our goal is to partner with therapists for affordable sessions for those who cannot afford them. If you need financial help to support your mental health, please apply through Art for the Mind.

Our start

The person who got me into art was my sister. At first, it was a competition, but then it became something we shared. Drawing helped us connect; it was a way to relax and to express ourselves. But eventually, making time to draw was no longer a priority. My sister experienced constant sleep paralysis and anxiety attacks. We wanted to get her help, but how could two kids afford a therapist? Mental health support was difficult to access, especially when the adults around us didn’t trust it. Mental support should be accessible to everyone at any age. She later gave up on drawing, but I won’t. I will approach the bridge in mental health the way I know best, artistically. Art for the Mind was created to inform others on emotional and cognitive wellness, support artists, and advocate for accessibility in mental health.

YYE

Originally, ‘Art for the Mind’ was ‘Youth for Youth Engineering’, an engineering nonprofit rooted in the Bay Area dedicated to making accessible tech content. We successfully donated over $500 in materials to schools in the Evergreen District and partnered with high schools across California.
